The telecomm industry in Chile is regulated by a specific law, the General Telecommunications Act (LGT), N° 18.168 passed in 1982. This Act gives rise to the rules and regulations governing specific aspects of the business, such as the relationship between service providers and customers, customer complaints, information that must be delivered to public services users and other technical quality standards, that regulate the minimum quality of data and telephone service.
Services offered by telecommunications companies are also subject to the Consumer Rights Act (LPC), law N° 19.496, passed in 1997, which governs the relationship between the service provider and the consumer.
